Maltepe University's 6. IT Days
On Maltepe University's 6. IT Days event, I have a session titled as "Intranets and SharePoint" on 2 March 2008 between 12:45 - 14:45. You can register to the event at this link: http://maltepebilisimgunleri.com/kayit.aspx
File Stream data type in SQL Server 2008 and SharePoint
As we all know, SQL Server 2008 ships with many new features. One of these features is the File Stream data type.

Because of performance consideration, developers do not want to store files on SQL Server databases. File Stream data type stores the file on a physical folder instead of the database file itself, but we can "insert" or "select" the file just like it was stored on SQL Server database.

SharePoint's document management module stores the uploaded files on SQL Server. This new data type will improve the performance of SharePoint. Unfortunately, usage of File Stream data type of SQL Server 2008 in SharePoint technologies will be avaliable with the new version of SharePoint. None of the service packs nor the hot fixes will change the way documents are stored on SQL Server 2008.

Sorry :(
Wanna move your Lotus workflows to MOSS 2007?

The Microsoft Transporter Suite tool is released on 25th January.

This tool migrates the Lotus Domino workflows to MOSS 2007, and at the same time if you have Lotus Domino mail servers or any POP/IMAP mail server, you can migrate these mail servers to Exchange 2007.

I wish I could get a Lotus Domino customer to try this tool immediately.

Some resources on capacity planning

Working with large lists
Microsoft published a white paper about working with large lists on SharePoint. It's highly recommended.
DataViewWebPart Disassembled
Victor Vogelpoel disassembled the DataViewWebPart class with reflector; click and see what he found.
Let's recommend a MOSS 2007 book
MOSS 2007 Administrator's Companion
Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007: Administrator's Companion is a very comprehensive resource for most MOSS 2007 administrators. It has detailed guidance on analyze, design, implement phases of MOSS 2007 deployment and it also helps with MOM, WF etc. integration.
